Panama has a lot more going for it than the Panama Canal.
It's a fabulous place to vacation, offering some of the best
deep sea fishing in all of Central America, as well as great
reefs for snorkeling. You can find vacation package deals
that will take you to the best wildlife areas and see the
most gorgeous scenery! Panama is also a bird-watcher's
paradise. There are loads of beautifully colored birds of
many species.
There are a total of seven indigenous people that live in
Panama, each retaining their own culture and heritage. The
Spanish heritage of Panama is widely celebrated by these
proud inhabitants and when you visit you~re sure to stumble
upon one festival or another, many times unplanned and
unpredicted.
If you are an adventurer, there are lots of those in Panama
too. You can snorkel in the Caribbean Sea, swim in the
Pacific Ocean, ride rapids, and see all sorts of wildlife in
the nature parks. You will want to keep coming back for
more; there is so much to do. Some areas should be
experienced only with a professional guide. One of the best
is Dari~n National Park, which is wild and uninhabited.
There are a number of tour guide companies to pick from in
setting up your visit to this unique and wild park.
The best time of year to visit Panama is when it~s the dry
season, from mid-December to mid-April. If you visit
during the rainy season you~ll find that the humidity is
almost impossible to take. You~ll also find that the rain
falls in short and sudden downpours that will make any
outdoor adventure that you have planned a risky business.
There are some wilder areas of Panama that are only
reachable during the dry season. One of the largest
parties takes place in Panama City during the carnival
season. If you want to be part of one of the world~s
largest carnival celebrations you~ll want to plan your
vacation around Ash Wednesday.
Among the other attractions that you won't want to miss, are
the Panama Canal, the Summit Botanical Gardens and Zoo, and
the Parque Nacional Metropolitana. One trip to Panama is all
it takes to keep you coming back for more.
