The idea to use aircraft as a means of travel germinated
in the eighteenth century and caught everyone~s
imagination. Until then the sky was only accessible to
people only through a hot air balloon. In 1903, when
Orville Wright finally gave form to this idea by taking a
12 second flight, the first step in laying down the
airline industry was taken. At that time, no one had
imagined that journey by air would become just another
mode of travel. Over the years, this airline industry has
made great leaps to reach its present status.
Aircraft travel is nowadays one of the fastest means for
travel. It is a full-fledged industry, which involves a
great deal of people in its upkeep. Mercury Aviation
Company was the pioneer in the field of commercial
airlines when it set up shop in 1920~s. Over time, many
advances have been made to the aircraft and the whole
technology has been modified to suit modern requirements
and standards. For people, it has become just another
traveling option with speed on its side. On the other
hand, for the people who run this infrastructure the
responsibility has grown. Millions of dollars are spent
to ensure that passengers have a safe and efficient
flight with no hiccups.
Similar to other means of travel, airlines have also had
to bear the brunt of fatal accidents. These accidents
gave the airline industry quite a jolt in spite of the
fact that, in numbers, these accidents were much less as
compared to road accidents. As a result, there was a
sudden surge of safety measures particularly with the
onset of terrorism in the world. In the present scenario,
all airline companies are dedicated to protect the safety
of their passengers and crew. For this, they have all taken
the necessary steps required in avoiding any and all
accidents.
The increased security entails passage through metal
detectors and increased searches - sometimes body
searches too. As a wise precaution, all passengers
should ensure that they pack only that material which
will pass through searches without raising suspicion.
Additionally, before passing through metal detectors, you
must empty your pockets to ensure that you do not carry
anything that can activate detectors. As a good planning
measure and to avoid last minute rushes, flights should
be booked well in time as this also ensures that you get
better rates.
If you get air-sick, it would be best for you to take air-
sickness pills if your flight is longer than 2 hours.
Remember to take your pills 15-30 minutes before the flight,
though, since it does take some time for the effect to kick
in. Here's to a safe and smooth flight!
